TRICARE Survey Follow-up on Contacting DMDC

We’ve had numerous reports that TRICARE beneficiaries in the Phase I Demonstration areas found they could not access the referenced Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) webpage to update their DEERS email addresses and phone numbers as advised by the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and we also experienced the same problem.

Working with a dedicated DMDC employee in Korea we were able to discover the cause and solution to the problem on Saturday evening, his day off.

The problem and solution involve Domain Name System (DNS) servers used by a computer to translate domain names to the numerical IP addresses needed for locating computer services and devices worldwide. The problem stems from poorly maintained DNS servers operated by various Internet Service Providers (ISP) where some groups of domains such as ‘.mil’ or ‘.gov’ are not well maintained.

Under normal circumstances a computer is set to obtain a DNS server address automatically which usually ends up as the one maintained by the ISP. Changing DNS servers to use specific known DNS servers should correct the problem.

We recommend one of these two sets of DNS servers.

DNS server addresses can be set on individual computers or your Router, if you use one, which will apply to all systems that access the internet through the Router. See The Ultimate Guide to Changing Your DNS Server. Those that are not comfortable with doing this on their own will need to find a friend or hire someone to do it.

Anyone that still experiences problems is encouraged to contact us, see ‘About’ above for our email address.

For anyone that prefers to call the numbers, +1-800-538-9552 or +1-866-363-2883 (TDD/TTY), to verify or update their information should be aware that the office is located in California and accepts calls 0600-1500 (PACIFIC TIME), MONDAY-FRIDAY, EXCLUDING FEDERAL HOLIDAYS.

Military.com also states that you can verify, but not change, your DEERS information by contacting your regional TRICARE managed care support contractor. In our case that is International SOS through the front Global 24. Whether they will respond to your request is unknown but you can contact them via email at Support@GLOBAL24NS.com or by phone as follows.

· Phone: +632-687-8656

· Philippines Toll-Free: +1-800-10-4562324

· U.S. (Stateside) Toll-Free: +1-877-678-1208 Option # 7: Philippine Demonstration information

Note that the Philippine toll-free number is only toll-free if called from a PLDT landline.
